Everything you want to know before taking the first step.
Yes. Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act, passed in 2022, legalized psilocybin-assisted therapy for adults 21 and older. Safar Healing Center is a licensed, fully compliant healing center operating within this framework â one of only 10 standard licensed healing centers in the state.
Any adult 21 or older who passes our screening and intake process. During your free consultation, we'll conduct a brief preliminary screening to ensure psilocybin-facilitated therapy is safe and appropriate for you. Some medical and psychiatric contraindications may apply â we'll discuss these openly from the start.
Not at all. Many of our journeyers are coming to psilocybin for the very first time. Our preparation process is designed to meet you exactly where you are â whether you're completely new or have prior experience outside a clinical setting.
Absolutely! You don't need to be a Colorado resident to access psilocybin-facilitated therapy at Safar. You simply need to be 21 or older and physically present in Boulder for your sessions.
Many of our journeyers travel specifically for this experience. If you're planning a visit, we recommend building in enough time for your full journey process â preparation, your session, and integration. Consultations are done virtally. Reach out and we'll help you think through the logistics.
That depends on your intentions, your experience level, and your medical and mental health history â all of which we explore together during preparation. As a general guide:
âLow dose (up to 2mg psilocin) â a gentle, grounded experience. Ideal for first-timers or those who want a subtle introduction.
âModerate dose (2mgâ10mg psilocin) â a deeper journey with more pronounced effects and greater inner exploration.
âHigh dose (10mgâ50mg psilocin) â a full, immersive experience for those seeking profound transformation, with extensive preparation required.
If you're ever unsure, we always recommend starting with a lower dose.
Under Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act, the maximum dose that can be administered in a single session is 50mg psilocin. All of Safar's offerings operate within these state-regulated limits.
Great question. Psilocybin is the compound found naturally in psychedelic mushrooms. When ingested, your body converts psilocybin into psilocin, which is the active compound that produces the effects you experience. Colorado's regulations measure and refer to doses in terms of psilocin â which is why you'll see dosage described that way at Safar.
No. You do not bring your own medicine. All natural medicine used at Safar is sourced directly through our licensed cultivator relationships and provided as part of your session. Bringing outside substances into the healing center is not permitted under Colorado's regulations.
We work exclusively with licensed cultivators â meaning every batch of medicine we use is legally sourced, tested, and meets Colorado's regulatory standards. We also maintain relationships with cultivators who grow a variety of psilocybin strains, allowing us to tailor the medicine to your individual needs and intentions.
In accordance with Colorado regulations, payment for natural medicine must be made in cash. All other services â consultation, preparation, integration â may be paid by standard methods. We'll walk you through the payment process clearly before your session so there are no surprises.
Every journey is unique. Some people experience vivid imagery, deep emotional releases, a sense of profound connection, or insights that feel life-changing. Others have quieter, more subtle experiences. The medicine meets you where you are. What tends to be consistent is a sense of meaning â a feeling that something shifted, even if it's hard to put into words immediately after.
Challenging moments during a journey are not uncommon â and they are not something to fear. Your licensed facilitator is present with you throughout the entire session, trained to support you through difficult passages with grounding techniques, compassionate presence, and clinical skill. Many journeyers find that their most challenging moments yield their most profound insights.
Absolutely. Starting with a lower dose is always a valid choice, and one we actively support. There is no pressure at Safar to go further or faster than feels right for you. Your pace is the right pace.
Session length depends on your dose:
Low dose: 90 minutes
Moderate dose: 210 minutes (3.5 hours)
High dose: 330 minutes (5.5 hours)
Integration support is included at the end of every session before you leave the space.
Your preparation session will cover everything you need to know.
When facilitated in a licensed, clinical setting by a trained professional, psilocybin-assisted therapy has a strong safety record. It is not physically addictive. However, it is not appropriate for everyone â certain medical conditions and medications can be contraindications. This is exactly why our screening and preparation process exists.
